Microsoft Outlook and Gmail have long been viewed as two independent entities that have competed against one another by Gmail Outlook Settings. Thousands of articles about Outlook vs. Gmail may be found on the internet, even though they are apples and oranges.
Microsoft and Google, on the other hand, realised that they needed to collaborate simply because it made life easier for employees who use Outlook or Gmail regularly. Google Workspace Sync’s debut was a step in the right direction.
Gmail accounts can now be added to Microsoft Outlook. Employees may now manage several Gmail accounts from a single location without a sweat. Plus, there’s more. You can check your emails when you’re not connected to the internet, which you can’t do with webmail like Gmail.
Steps to Setting Up Your Gmail Account in Outlook [Gmail Outlook Settings]
Step # 1. Get your Gmail account ready
Here are some essential things that you need to accomplish in Gmail before you marry your Gmail to Outlook:
• IMAP should be enabled in your Gmail account.
By default, the IMAP setting in gmail is disabled. As a result, you must enable IMAP on your Gmail account. This step allows Outlook to connect to your account and download and transmit messages.
• Open Gmail and go to the upper right corner of the screen to the gear icon. You need to select See All Settings from the drop down menu.
• Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab at the top of the menu.
• Click Enable IMAP under IMAP Access.
• Save your changes by clicking the Save button.
Step #2. Get a Gmail App-Specific Password
Multi-factor authentication (MFA), often known as two-factor authentication (2FA), is required to secure data saved in SaaS programs such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. To set up certain applications, such as integrating Gmail to Outlook, Gmail accounts with 2FA enabled (recommended) will require an app-specific password.
• Choose the Google Account option after clicking your profile icon in the window’s top-right corner.
• You need to click on Manage Your Google Account from the drop-down menu.
• Select the Security tab from the left side of the account.
• Turn on 2-Step Verification and click on App passwords on the Signing into Google card page.
• Go to the drop-down menu in the App password window and select Other.
• Outlook is the program to use.
• Then press the Generate button.
• Hit Done once Google has generated an app password.
• Note this password since you’ll need it to link Outlook to Gmail from within the Outlook software.
Step # 3. Connect your Outlook account to your Gmail account
It’s time to finally add your Gmail account to Microsoft Outlook once you’ve done the essential steps in your Gmail account.
• Open Outlook, then go to File, then Account Settings.
• You must click New in the Account Settings window.
• In the middle area, type your Gmail email address > click Connect.
• Click Connect after pasting the password you have created in Google.
• The setup of your account is almost complete. Deselect and then click OK unless you wish to set up Outlook Mobile on your phone.
To make your account more secure you have to turn on the two step verification. You can do this by closing the less secure apps page and then go to the outlook app. Go into file in the menu, then choose account settings. And then choose account settings again. Click new and type your g-mail address , then click “ Connect”. Next type in your G-mail password and click on the “ Connect” present in the bottom. Now the account has been added , then click on the “ Done”. Now you can close this page. A G-mail account has been added.
If allowing less secure apps is Off , your two step verification button will be on and your account is still secure.
Congratulations! You may now access your Gmail account from within Microsoft Outlook.
